Rugby, medicine, vision and palaeontology: an eclectic, unifying hypothesis
Well known former Wallaby Captain and Australian Rugby Statesman, Brisbane Ophthalmologist Dr Mark Loane was awarded a Medal of Australia in the 2011 Australia Day Honours, in recognition of his lesser known work with indigenous Australians in Far North Queensland. Mark is passionate about providing ophthalmic services to rural, remote and especially indigenous people. For many years Mark has coordinated and helped manage a combined Federal/State Government initiative using a hybrid optometrical/ ophthalmological service to provide high grade eye services to 12 communities in Cape York Peninsula. Mark is a Board Member of Guide Dogs Queensland and The Eye Foundation. MLSQ will donate funds to a charity of his choice.
