MLSQ 2008 Conference

Date/Time Display:
12-13 September 2008
SurfAir Marcoola

Held at Marcoola on the beautiful Sunshine Coast, the 2008 conference had a challenging and provocative conference theme, Medical Frontiers and the Lagging Law ensuring the professions had a lot to talk about from the outset.  Is the law falling behind?  Are the legislature and the legal fraternity able to keep abreast of medical innovation?  Our speakers did not hold back or disappoint.  They included the Melbourne University’s Professor Loane Skene, an expert in medical law with a particular interest in ethics, Professor Peter Silburn a neurologist who pushes the boundaries of research and clinical practice; transplant guru Associate Professor Daryl Wall and highly respected gynaecologist Dr David Molloy.  Joining them to balance the program with a more personal touch were well known ethicist Dr Noel Preston, transplant recipient and farmer John Coggan and solicitor Margie Kruger whose partner died waiting for a double lung transplant.   This combination of speakers ensured some lively debate, discussion and some very moving and thought provoking personal stories.  There was a lot of fun too with the conference dinner on Friday evening and a Bledisloe bash to close the conference on Saturday night.  Great fun, good company, lots to think about…. See you in 2009.
